Well, it is the week after Easter. The flurry of Holy Week activities is over, and the rush of Easter morning is behind us. And yet, it is still Easter, for Easter is not one day but fifty days! So this Sunday, we will gather and celebrate the resurrection once again!
Have you ever experienced FOMO? For those of you who have never heard of this term, FOMO is an acronym for "fear of missing out." For many, the rise of social media has cultivated an increasing fear that we are missing out on experiences, events, or knowledge that others have. In this week's Gospel reading from John 20, one of Jesus' disciples has a serious case of FOMO. Doubting Thomas, as he has come to be known, fears that he missed out on his one opportunity to encounter the risen Jesus when he appeared to the other disciples.
Thomas desperately wanted to have his chance to encounter Jesus. And I don't think we are all that different. We worship, study the scriptures, serve on mission teams, and celebrate Communion, all with the hope that we might get a glimpse of Jesus. This Sunday, as the Scriptures are read, the Word is proclaimed, and Holy Communion is celebrated, we have the sacred opportunity to glimpse Jesus. I hope you will join us for worship at 8:30, 9:00, or 11:00 AM this Sunday. You don't want to miss it!
