EPIPHANY: The Audacity of Hope

“Epiphany” isn’t an everyday word. It derives from an ancient Greek word meaning “divine appearance.” To the ancients, an epiphany was an unexpected manifestation of divine power or the abrupt appearance of a supernatural being. In modern usage, it refers to those “Eureka!” moments when we suddenly realize something of great importance.

In Christian theology, the Epiphany was the revelation of God’s presence and glory in the infant Jesus when the Magi visited the Holy Family. We usually read the story in Matthew 2 and sing “We Three Kings” on Epiphany.

Have you ever suddenly and unexpectedly experienced God’s presence or power? Did it change you? Did it fill you with hope? Reflect on those questions as Epiphany approaches, and join us in worship on Sunday. Welcome home to Centenary!
