Advent At the Edge
Every year, thousands of people get lost in the wilderness. Most find their way out or get rescued, but some are never found.
Have you ever been lost? You can feel like you’ve gone off the trail of life right in your own living room. A worrying diagnosis, a big blow-up at work, and an unexpected, unpayable expense can make us forget where and who we are. At some point, we all find ourselves living on the edge of normalcy. Some people—the poor, the mentally ill, the persecuted—live there all the time.
John the Baptist lived in the Judean wilderness, a place of scorching sun, bone-dry sand, snakes, scorpions, and criminals. He was as wild as the world he inhabited, and this strange and remarkable man takes the stage on the Second Sunday in Advent. He has a word we need to hear about changing our lives to prepare for the coming of the Lord. Are you ready to meet Jesus? Come and hear more this Sunday. The sermon title is “At the Edge.”
