Rev. Garry M. Slade born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. In 1974 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving honorably for 27 years. Rev. Slade began a second career 2001 with Lion Vallen Industries, Dayton Ohio. There he has been steadily promoted retiring as the Vice President for Marine Corps and Navy Programs, overseeing worldwide operations consisting of 330 employees. He was finically liable for over $2.0 Billion in assets with an annual budget of over 30 million dollars. After serving over 15 years in various leadership roles in the local church, Rev. Slade accepted his call to preach in 2011. In 2015 he was appointed to Pastor Jericho, AME Zion church in Kinston, NC. Rev. Slade was ordained a Deacon in 2017 and Elder in 2018. That same year he was appointed to Pastor St. Peter’s AME Zion Church, AME Zion’s Mother Church of the South. The church has adopted the mantra, “Come Here Her Speak.” He helps to spread her voice currently serving on the Ecumenical Faith Connection Board, the African American Historical Cultural Center board, and the UNC Preservation and Resiliency Advisory Group. On September 8, 2022, Rev. Slade was appointed by the Governor of NC to serve as a member-at-large on the Tyron Palace Commission.
Rev. Slade holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, with Honors from Campbell University, a Master of Arts, in Management and Leadership from Webster University and a Master of Theological Studies with a concentration on Biblical Studies from Hood Theological Seminary with honors. He also holds several professional certifications, and is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. He has been married to former Gwendolyn Raynor of Jacksonville, NC for over 43 years. Together they have three children Reginald (Sheeree) and Regina Burgess (Al), Shamsideen (Darice), and are also blessed with 9 grandchildren.
