From Pastor Spivey
I once had a job where I had two bosses. I was the Head of the Computer Technology Department, a division of the Business Department, so I answered to the Head of the Business Department. I was also the Computer Technology Department’s Novelle network administrator and answered to the Director of Information Technology. Sometimes, the two would tell me to do things I couldn’t possibly do. I couldn’t leave a class full of students to deal with a network problem. I couldn’t go to both network training and professional development workshops at the same time.
If you’ve ever been in a similar situation, you know how frustrating it can be. You either please one boss and make the other mad or vice versa. And Jesus talked about this very problem in Matthew 22, except he discussed our ultimate “boss,” God. When we live as if someone or something else has an ultimate claim on our time, our talents, and our treasure, we’re trying to satisfy two masters. What, then, can we do? Join us in worship this coming Sunday morning and find out.
