Daily Encouragement - January 29

Be still, and know that I am God!

I am exalted among the nations,

I am exalted in the earth.”

The Lord of hosts is with us;

the God of Jacob is our refuge.

— Psalm 46:10-11

Or if the child asks for a fish, will give a snake? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

— Matthew 7:10-11

Those of you on Facebook know that I “worked” from Holly Springs this week. Sure, there was quite a lot of Lexie time involved, but I did “some” work. Honest I did. One of the things I did was to try and give Lexie bottles and rock her to sleep. (Tough work, I know, but someone has to do it.) Lexie would struggle so to stay awake. No matter how many times I told her everything was ok, that she would feel better if she just let herself rest, still she fought and fought and fought.

The idea of trusting is hard for us. How do we know? How can we be sure everything will be ok? Sure, you say so, but, how can I be sure? What if I miss something? What if something happens I didn’t plan for? What if . . .? It is all about those what if’s.

I can’t promise that your tomorrows will all be perfect. I cannot promise that nothing bad will happen. There is a great deal of pain in so many places. Even so, God is still God and if we will rest in the arms of God, peace can be ours.

Be Still My Soul v. 1

Be still, my soul, The Lord is on thy side

Bear patiently, the cross of grief or pain

Leave to thy God, to order and provide

In every change, He faithful will remain

Be still, my soul, thy best thy heavenly friend

Through thorny ways, leads to a joyful end.

Lord God, like a gentle father you hold us; like a caring mother you protect us, grant that we may trust in your providence and rest in your arms, for nothing can separate us from your great love in Christ Jesus. Amen.
