Music Ministry Mission Statement
The Music Ministries of Centenary United Methodist Church are a vital part of our church life, offering all styles of church music for all ages. We seek to honor, worship, and glorify God with our musical offerings. Please know that all are welcome and we look forward to worshipping God together through music.
Our Sanctuary Choir leads worship each Sunday morning in our 11:00 a.m. service. This choir is open to adults who feel a call to serve God through the musical gifts He has given them. The choir sings a variety of styles from hymns that reflect our heritage as well as the latest Sacred choral works. This group also presents several special programs throughout the year and sings for community events. They meet on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the choir room located upstairs behind the sanctuary. If you are interested in becoming a part of the Sanctuary Choir, you are welcome to join at any time during the year.
The Carillon Choir at Centenary is a choir utilizing 5 octaves of Schulmerich handbells. It is a mixed group of students and adults. Within this group, there are smaller performing groups that ring as ensembles or solo ring. The group performs on various Sundays during the 11:00 a.m. service. In addition, Carillon Choir participates in the Capital Area Handbell Festival annually. The handbells practice on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
The Children’s Choir Ministry provides children ages 4 through 5th grade with the opportunity to grow spiritually and musically. All music is chosen with the goal of leading children to a growing faith in Jesus Christ. The music they sing and play will help them explore their gifts, talents and abilities. Centenary has a full set of Orff instruments which the children sometimes play as they sing. The Children’s choir will share in worship on various Sundays throughout the year. All Children’s choirs meet on Wednesday evenings at 5 p.m.
Our Chapel Choir leads our worship each Sunday morning for the 8:30 a.m. service. This group of mixed voices shares their love of historic hymns and sacred songs through music in an intimate chapel setting. This ensemble rehearses Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the chapel located behind the sanctuary.
